Sholay 3D cleared for release by High Court

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday cleared the release of the upcoming film Sholay 3D after it rejected the petition filed by director Ramesh Sippy challenging a single bench ruling, allowing the release of Sholay in 3D version.

The bench comprising of Justice S J Vazifdar and Justice GS Patel upheld the April 1 order of the single-judge bench, refusing to restrain Pen India Pvt Ltd and its owner Jayantilal Gada from releasing the 3D version of the movie. Sippy’s petition was filed when Pen India acquired the rights of the film from Media and Entertainment who were initially given the rights by Sippy Films via the validity of two agreements – the Deed of Gift of September 14, 2000 and an agreement of July 20, 2011. Apart from this Sippy had also filed a plea for interim relief seeking a temporary injunction against Sholay, Media and Entertainment, Generation Three Entertainment, Pen Media and Jayantilal Gada from dealing in any manner whatsoever with Sholay.

Sholay 3D is slated for release in early January next year.
